POSTER DESIGN

IA School Poster jpeg.jpg

As we were first discussing the theme of this poster being leap of faith, I immediately thought of it in the sense of chasing my dreams and shooting for the stars. I am taking a huge leap of faith by choosing to pursue acting, and I am shooting for the stars hoping that it will work out. This gave me the idea to use a night theme for the poster. I created my poster using Canva, which luckily had a night sky background I could choose. I found the font for the word “LEAP” in their title options. I liked it because it looked like the word was glowing, almost as if it was one of the stars. I got some images of stars to put around the word. Underneath, I added the dates of the festival in a white and gold colour, to stick with the colour scheme of gold stars.

I also found a few images to represent a few of the different arts, which are theatre, visual art, and writing. For the musical element, I wanted to find a music staff that looked like it was a shooting star moving through the night sky. I found this image, which luckily is gold, and I put it across the entire poster to give it the effect of being in the sky. The last element of my poster is the song lyric I put at the bottom. This is a lyric from “Defying Gravity”, which is a song from the musical Wicked. I absolutely love Wicked, it was the first professional musical I ever saw. This song matches the theme of the night sky, and beyond that it matches the theme of leap of faith. The main character Elphaba is singing about how she is choosing to “defy gravity” as she makes a change in her life, taking a leap of faith. Therefore, not only was this lyric perfect because it has the word leap in it, but it is also perfect because it beautifully represents the message I am trying to get across with my poster. I hope this poster can inspire people to take a leap of faith and “defy gravity”.
